COR INMACULATA MARIAE

In this painting of Mary as Inang Bayan, the CICM coat of arms is superimposed on her bodice with the symbol of her Immaculate Heart in the middle of her chest. The shape of the coat of arms is echoed by the shape of the stranded sampaguitas on a background of sinamay, or woven abaca, behind her.

This is all I listened to while making this painting. I should mention, though, that the auditory stimuli for my paintings have nothing to do with the subject matter of the paintings themselves. It merely dawned on me while I was painting that I set up my easel in the middle of our erstwhile Miranda's Cove, a sort of neighborhood Moulin Rouge in the early 2000s. My younger son Chito used to sing this song in 2004:
